The DNS Zone Editor in cPanel allows you to add, edit, and delete DNS records for your domains. This is essential for configuring websites, email, and third‑party services.

About DNS Records

  • A Record → Maps a domain name (e.g., example.com) to an IP address (e.g., 104.218.15.162).

  • CNAME Record → Creates an alias by pointing one domain to another (e.g., mail.example.comexample.com).

  • TXT Record → Stores arbitrary text, often used for SPF, DKIM, or verification purposes.

Misconfigured DNS records can make your site inaccessible or break email delivery.

Adding a Record

  1. Log in to cPanel.

  2. Go to Domains → Zone Editor.

  3. Under Domains, locate the domain → click Manage.

  4. Next to Add Record, click the dropdown → choose record type (A, CNAME, TXT).

  5. Fill in:

    • Name → Fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

    • TTL → Time‑to‑live (default: 14400 seconds = 4 hours).

    • Type → Record type.

    • Record → Value (IP address, canonical name, or text).

  6. Click Add Record.

Editing a Record

  1. Log in to cPanel → Zone Editor.

  2. Under Domains, click Manage.

  3. Locate the record → click Edit.

  4. Modify values → click Save Record.

Be careful: editing critical records (like MX or A records) can disrupt your site or email.

Deleting a Record

  1. Log in to cPanel → Zone Editor.

  2. Under Domains, click Manage.

  3. Locate the record → click Delete.

  4. Confirm deletion.

Deleting essential records may make your site or email inaccessible.
