FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is one of the most common ways to upload and manage files on your hosting account. With FTP, you can transfer files between your local computer and your Ruachost hosting server, making it easy to publish websites, update content, or back up data.

What is FTP?

FTP establishes a connection between:

  • Your local computer (client) – where you store and edit your website files.

  • Your Ruachost hosting server – where your website files must be uploaded to be accessible online.

Using an FTP client (such as FileZilla, Cyberduck, or WinSCP), you can:

  • Upload files from your computer to your hosting account.

  • Download files from your hosting account to your computer.

  • Edit, rename, or delete files directly on the server.

Note: Standard FTP does not encrypt data. For security, Ruachost recommends using SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) or FTPS (FTP Secure).

Secure FTP Options

ruachost supports secure alternatives to plain FTP:

  • SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)

    • Uses SSH encryption for secure transfers.

    • Login with the same username and password you use for cPanel or SSH.

  • FTPS (FTP Secure)

    • Uses TLS encryption (the same protocol as HTTPS).

    • Login with your FTP username and password.

Both options ensure your data is encrypted during transfer.
