Sometimes you may need to test your website or email service from a network outside your usual home or office connection. A quick way to do this is by setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot on your mobile device, which shares your cellular data connection with other devices.
Why Use a Mobile Hotspot?
-
Troubleshoot connectivity issues by testing from a different network.
-
Provide internet access to a laptop or tablet when no Wi-Fi is available.
-
Share your mobile data connection securely with other devices.
Setting Up a Hotspot
On Android
-
Open Settings.
-
Tap Network & Internet → Hotspot & Tethering → Wi-Fi Hotspot.
-
Toggle the hotspot On.
-
Configure:
-
Hotspot name → This is the network name (SSID) visible to other devices.
-
Security → Choose WPA2-Personal for best protection.
-
Password → Set a strong password for connecting devices.
-
(Optional) Enable Turn off hotspot automatically when no devices are connected.
-
Your hotspot is now active. Connect another device by selecting the hotspot name and entering the password.
On iOS (iPhone/iPad)
-
Open Settings.
-
Tap Personal Hotspot.
-
Toggle Allow Others to Join.
-
Tap Wi-Fi Password to set or change the password.
The hotspot name is the same as your device name. To change it:
-
Go to Settings → General → About → Name, then enter a new device name.
Your hotspot is now active. Other devices can connect using the displayed network name and password.
