Managing mailing lists in cPanel

Mailing lists allow you to send one message to many recipients at once. cPanel uses the Mailman list manager to provide this functionality. You can create, manage, and delete mailing lists directly from your hosting account.

About Mailing Lists

• A mailing list is a single e‑mail address that distributes messages to multiple subscribers.

• Example: customers@example.com → sends one message to all customers.

• Options include:

  • Public vs. Private lists.

  • Welcome messages for new subscribers.

  • Administrative delegation.

 Before creating a mailing list, familiarize yourself with rules against unsolicited e‑mail (spam).

Creating a Mailing List

1. Log in to cPanel.

2. On the Tools page, in the Email section, click Mailing Lists.

3. Under Create a Mailing List:

   • Enter a List Name.

   • Select the Domain.

   • Set a Password (or use Password Generator).

   • Choose Access Type:

     • Public → anyone can subscribe, archives are public.

     • Private → admin approval required, archives hidden.

4. Click Add.

5. cPanel creates the mailing list.

Managing a Mailing List

1. Log in to cPanel → Mailing Lists.

2. Under Current Lists, locate the list.

3. Options include:

   • Change Password.

   • Manage → opens the Mailman admin page with advanced settings.

   • Delegation → assign other users as administrators.

 Adding Members

1. Log in to cPanel → Mailing Lists → Manage.

2. In the Mailman interface, click Membership Management → Mass Subscription.

3. Add subscribers:

   • Manually type addresses.

   • Upload a text file (one address per line).

4. Click Submit Your Changes.

 Removing Members

1. Log in to cPanel → Mailing Lists → Manage.

2. In the Mailman interface, click Membership Management → Membership List.

3. Select members to unsubscribe → click Submit Your Changes.

4. For bulk removal, use Mass Removal and upload a text file of addresses.

Sending Messages

1. Compose an e‑mail in your mail client or webmail.

2. Send it to the mailing list address (e.g., customers@example.com).

3. All subscribers will receive the message.

 Deleting a Mailing List

⚠️ Warning: Deleting a list permanently removes all archives, current e‑mail, and subscriber addresses.

1. Log in to cPanel → Mailing Lists.

2. Under Current Lists, locate the list.

3. Click Delete → Delete Mailing List.
