A redirect automatically sends visitors from one web page to another. This is useful for:

  • Shortening long URLs.

  • Redirecting old pages to new ones.

  • Moving traffic from non‑www to www versions (or vice versa).

  • Redirecting entire directories at once.

Adding a Redirect

  1. Log in to cPanel.

  2. On the Tools page → Domains section, click Redirects.

  3. Under Add Redirect:

    • Select the type:

      • Permanent (301) → tells browsers/search engines the page has moved permanently.

      • Temporary (302) → indicates a temporary move.

    • Select the domain.

    • Enter the web page you want to redirect.

    • In the Redirects to box, type the destination URL (can be on your site or another site).

  4. Configure options:

    • www redirection → choose how to handle www versions.

    • Wild Card Redirect → redirects all files in a directory to the same filenames in the new directory.

  5. Click Add → cPanel saves the redirect.

Removing a Redirect

  1. Log in to cPanel → Redirects.

  2. Under Current Redirects, locate the redirect.

  3. Click Delete → confirm with Remove Redirect. Note: Redirects cannot be modified. If you need to change one, delete it and create a new redirect.

Notes

  • Use 301 redirects for SEO‑friendly permanent changes.

  • Use 302 redirects for temporary moves (e.g., during maintenance).

  • Wildcard redirects are handy for moving entire directories.

  • Always test redirects after creating them to ensure they work correctly.
