Sometimes, when you set up an e‑mail forwarder in cPanel to redirect messages to a Gmail account, the messages never arrive or they end up in Gmail’s spam folder. This is a common issue due to how Gmail handles forwarded mail.

Problem

  • Gmail may block forwarded messages or mark them as spam.

  • Example: You configure user@example.com to forward to user@gmail.com.

    • If someone sends mail to user@example.com, Gmail may reject or filter it.

  • Another scenario: If you send a message from Gmail → to your domain → forwarded back to Gmail, it will not arrive.

    • This is by design to prevent mail loops.

Resolution

Instead of using cPanel forwarders, configure Gmail to directly access your hosting account’s mailbox:

  1. Log in to Gmail.

  2. Go to Settings → See all settings → Accounts and Import.

  3. Under Check mail from other accounts, click Add a mail account.

  4. Enter your hosted e‑mail address (e.g., user@example.com).

  5. Provide the POP3 server details (from your Ruachost Dashboard or cPanel).

  6. Enter your e‑mail account’s username and password.

  7. Choose whether to:

    • Leave a copy of messages on the server.

    • Label incoming messages.

    • Archive messages automatically.

  8. Save settings.

Gmail will now fetch messages directly from your hosting account, bypassing the forwarder issue.

Notes

  • Forwarders are convenient but unreliable with Gmail due to spam filtering and loop prevention.

  • Using Gmail’s POP3 fetch method ensures messages are delivered consistently.

  • You can also configure Gmail to send mail as your hosted address for seamless communication.
